Why the double chin shapes your entire contour
How a double chin develops. Three things usually come together. First, a fat deposit under the chin that is often already present at a young age and responds neither to exercise nor to diet. Second, the skin itself: from young adulthood on, it loses about one percent of its collagen per year (Shuster, Black and McVitie, 1975, British Journal of Dermatology), becomes thinner and holds the tissue beneath it less firmly. Third, gravity, which pulls sagging cheek tissue toward the jawline and neck. All three make the angle between chin and neck more obtuse.
